  10. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
  11. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
  12. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
  13. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
  14. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
  15. Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
  16. For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
  17. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
