As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
  6. Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy. Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
  7. Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
  8. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
  9. Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
  10. O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
  11. When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.
  12. For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
  13. He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?
  14. Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
  15. He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
  16. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
  17. LORD, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them.
  18. In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
  19. But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
  20. O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
  21. For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
  22. She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.
  23. And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
  24. Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
  25. As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;
  26. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
  27. Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
  28. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
  29. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
