Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

  1. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
  2. Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
  3. But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me. It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
  4. The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.
  5. Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.
  6. So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
  7. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
  8. The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
  9. How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
  10. Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?
  11. The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
  12. Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
  13. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
  14. Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
  15. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
  16. Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
  17. I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
  18. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
