Matthew 4:7

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

  11. But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
  12. To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
  13. And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.
  14. And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
  15. Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
  16. But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
  17. Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
  18. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
