Mark 2:20

But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

  8. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
  9. Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
  10. For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
  11. Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
  12. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
  13. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
  14. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
  15. And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
  16. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
  17. Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
  18. As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
  19. And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.
  20. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
  21. In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;
  22. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
  23. In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
  24. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
  25. And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
