  1. For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house.
  2. Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
  3. Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
  4. Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.
  5. Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.
  6. Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
  7. So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.
  8. And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.
  9. For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
  10. For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
  11. Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
  12. And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
