Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for himself:

  2. Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
  3. He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
  4. He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
  5. Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thy lewd way.
  6. Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
  7. Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.
  8. To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.
  9. I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:
  10. But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
