Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

  1. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
  2. But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.
  3. And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.
  4. And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied. Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.   5. Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
  6. Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
  7. Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
