  8. They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
  9. They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
  10. He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
  11. And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die.
  12. Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
  13. I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.
  14. They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

  17. But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.
  18. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
  19. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
  20. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
  21. There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
  22. For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
  23. And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
  24. Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
  25. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
  26. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
  27. How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
