Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

  10. Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.
  11. Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.
  12. Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous. And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
  13. And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
  14. Nevertheless divers of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.
  15. Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

  21. All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
  22. Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
  23. In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted. For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
  24. A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
  25. The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.
  26. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
  27. For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
  28. Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.
  29. They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.
  30. And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.
  31. Sigh therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness sigh before their eyes.
  32. And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
  33. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
  34. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
  35. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
  36. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
  37. Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
  38. But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
  39. Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
  40. Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
