1 Corinthians 13:4

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

  8. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
  9. And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.
  10. And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.
  11. Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained unto him: and he hath requited me evil for good. So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
  12. And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand. For in very deed, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
  13. And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me. And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.
  14. His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
  15. Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
  16. He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
  17. The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.
  18. The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
  19. Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame. Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another: Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
  20. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
  21. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
  22. Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
  23. If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.
  24. Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated. And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
  25. For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
  26. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
  27. And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,
  28. Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
  29. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
  30. Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.
  31. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
  32. Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
  33. For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
  34. With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
  35. Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
  36. If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
  37. Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
  38. Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
  39. He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
  40. In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
  41. But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
  42. Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
  43. For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
  44. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
  45. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
  46. Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
  47. Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
  48. And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
  49. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
  50. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
  51. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
